Staff Letters: Phil

... No, never stop this locomotion...

What a quiet two months in IPOM-land. Let me catch you up: nothing happened. That was easy.

On the other hand, Phil-land was not quiet at all. I moved out of my dorm on May 11th and stayed in Miami for 1.5 weeks followed by 1.5 weeks in Arizona to visit my girlfriend's parents. On July 1st my girlfriend and I moved into our new place (to be joined two weeks later by our friend Tim who was driving across country at the time).

Moving into a new place with nothing but furniture is a new experience for us. We had to buy things we've never bought before, like trash cans, toilet paper, plungers, dish rack, etc. Thankfully my girlfriend's mom bought her a house warming present of a set of dishes and pots and pans. THe first few weeks were quite and adjustment.

The interesting thing was, we were all supposed to have jobs lined up at this point. I had been turned down for several jobs because I had been out of town during May when they needed me for interviews. Now that I was back, it was too late for most people to hire. Getting desperate I applied at AutoZone and got an application from Subway. I had to borrow from my parents to pay the rent. Then along came a job posting in the Unix Users Association of Southern California mailing list: Solaris and Radius Administrator. The perfect job for me! I sent in my resume, went in for an interview and had the job in a week! Whew! A FUN job that's well paying. Thanks God. Still haven't gotten my first pay check, but that should come soon.

Getting the DSL installed was a lengthy procedure... but that's all finally done too. My computer has been acting up lately too, but now I've gotten all that taken care of and I should have time to concentrate on IPOM again!

So what's all this mean for you? I HOPE it means two new sections in the next few weeks, lots more updates, and hopefully some new graphics from Matt. Stay tuned.
